Amazon Releasing and Spreading False ROP Rumors

Fellowship of Fans has released a statement:

Given the rumors we've seen over the past few months, I can't say that I am much surprised.

Shocking

Heh. Not.

A cynic might say this sort of clandestine attempt, worthy of corporate or international espionage at the highest levels, is a sure sign that the production knows exactly what would excite fans of the Tolkien lore and exactly what they would want to see, but, like Lucy, gleefully pulls that football away from Charlie Brown every time.

Somewhere in there is also a story about your least favorite aunt telling you it's good for you. Now sit up and eat it.

4chan

So, what does this likely mean for the recent 4chan rumors? Maybe none of them were true.

I at the time took them with an oliphaunt-sized pinch of salt, definitely wise to continue to do so.

Other than the 4chan leaks...

... are there any others that stand out as implausible and/or untrustworthy? As I've understood it, Fellowship of Fans always verify their leaks with multiple sources before publishing, and this is more of a precautionary action than anything else.

Now now Bill, you swore this was a battle between warriors, not a bunch of miss nancies, so warriors is what I brought

Age of ONLINE

Marvel shoots fake stuff too for this same reason.

The internet has become so sophisticated and so overreaching that if we just did production like normal there would be no surprises about anything ever.

I'm glad ROP is taking some precaution to muddy the rumour mill waters.

Also - that 4chan list was full of bonkers red flags.

The good news in all of this, is that the internet loves to get riled up. It's almost the only thing the internet loves.

"So which story do you prefer?"
"The one with the tiger. That's the better story."
"Thank you. And so it goes with God."

Such a difference from the openness eventually embraced by PJ and NewLine

and a good way to further alienate potential fans.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

The contrast is striking, is it not?

It won’t make any difference

Season 1 was so awful that fake news or true news about Season 2 won’t improve things.

It’s clear that any established canon or short story will either not be included at all, or (if it gets included) it’ll be handled badly or it’ll have some Amazonian slant that is un-Tolkien.

So good rumour or bad the end result will suck.

Exactly.

This show turned me off before I ever saw an episode... I will never watch another.
